Empowering Women To Reduce Future Populations
A recent study published by Project Drawdown revealed that, globally, an estimated 225 million women have an unmet need for voluntary reproductive healthcare. The study argues that reducing future populations by empowering women through education and reproductive healthcare, could help to cut 85 Gigatonnes of CO2 emissions by 2050.
With human population growth known to be directly linked to climate change, this means that global access to family planning (for both girls and boys), and empowering women to have more freedom of choice, has the potential to ease global environmental stresses such as deforestation, pollution and loss of biodiversity.

Do you think that empowering women would realistically control population growth? Or is a more drastic solution needed?

Giving women the power to make better choices about their lives is critical. Yes, I think it would help to reduce the population in a good way. But there are still too many countries and cultures where women are oppressed. Girls are not even allowed to attend school in Afghanistan any more! How medieval is that? What are they supposed to do, stay at home, cook and produce children?
