Population Grows By 75 Million In 2023
Data released by the US Census Bureau indicates that the world population increased by just over 75 million in 2023.
According to the Bureau, earth’s human population on January 1 2024 is 75,162,541 higher than it was on New Year’s Day 2023, a growth rate of almost 1%.
Worldwide, 4.3 births and 2 deaths are expected every second at the beginning of 2024.
The latest figures suggest a slight slowing in human population growth, attributed to several factors. These include declining fertility rates, as well as proportionally fewer young people on the planet compared to the elderly population. The COVID-19 pandemic has also continued to be a factor, with global life expectancy at birth falling slightly, and countries experiencing unequal recovery from the pandemic across the globe.
Human population is predicted to see significant continued growth, however, at least until the end of the current century. The United Nations predicts that, based on all evidence, the global population will most likely peak at around 11 billion by 2100.
